Feeling the Lull, Finding the Spark
A gentle, heartfelt update on navigating creative burnout and finding inspiration again through art, music, color, and the quiet beauty of everyday life.
They say when you have nothing to say, just start writing and see what comes out. So here I am—typing through the fog. Truthfully, I haven’t been super inspired lately, which is why I’ve been a little MIA. These past few weeks have burned me out a bit—client projects, a whirlwind photoshoot, and back-to-back visitors in town. It’s been a month but I’m finally looking forward to slowing down, catching my breath, and hopefully feeling that creative spark again.
When I feel disconnected from my creativity, I tend to lean into silence. Listening to the world around me—birds chirping, the hum of life—has a way of nudging me back to myself. Sometimes I even force myself (yes, really) to create moodboards of beautiful, strange, moody images. That alone can wake something up inside me.
So, here are a few things that have recently stirred the pot, sparked my interest, and made me feel a little more alive:
1. The New Diptyque Store at NorthPark Mall in Dallas
Okay, wow. First of all, the hand-painted walls are next-level. Apparently, a Parisian mother/daughter duo did the entire mural work—and it’s truly breathtaking. It made me want to immediately paint my bathroom in watercolors and soft terracottas. It’s giving fairytale forest meets dreamy Paris apartment. Pastels, painted cabinetry, that “what if the walls were alive?” feeling. Go check it out. You will not be disappointed.

2. The Dallas Art Fair
I saw a sculpture made entirely of toothpicks (yes, really) that was somehow so delicate and architectural. Then there was a black and white watercolor series that looked like photography—it was created from five or more framed pieces to form one large, immersive image. I was in love.
Oh, and a piece from a Mexico City artist was so minimal it actually gave me peace just looking at it. That’s the kind of art I’m here for—the kind that literally lowers your heart rate

3. The Return of the Dress
I’ve been swooning over designers bringing back layered, bohemian looks and sharp, tailored silhouettes. The contrast is delicious. Growing up, I was obsessed with dresses—and honestly, not much has changed. I see it as an art form. I’ve saved a few pieces I’m currently eyeing, and they’re making me want to run through fields or go to a very fashionable dinner party. Either one

4. Color Therapy
Color always helps me reset. When I’m feeling anxious or creatively dry, I dive into palettes that feel like a warm hug. Here’s what I’m into lately:
Pastel blues
Terracotta sands
Luminous greige sky
Yellowy yellow
Dark, industrious purple
Yes, I just made some of those names up, but don’t they sound amazing?
5. Songs Getting Me Through the Lull
Music has always been medicine for me, and lately these songs have been on repeat. They’re moody, dreamy, and calming—perfect for quiet mornings or late-night creative wanders.
These tracks have helped carry me through low-energy, anxious days. The power of a good song is real—sometimes even more healing than walking into a peaceful room (though I love that too).
